PT3 Mathematics 2017, Question 8

Question 8 (a):
Diagram 8 shows packets AB and C that are filled with flour according to the stated mass.

Based on Diagram 8,
(i) State the heaviest mass of flour.
(ii) Puan Chan needs 2.6 kg of flour to bake cakes.
State the two combination of containers that should be chosen in order for her to bake the cakes.

Solution:
(i)
Container A=1 kg 80 gContainer B=1.52 kg =1 kg 520 gContainer C=112 kg =1 kg 500 gThe heaviest mass of flour=B:1.52 kg

(ii)
A=1 kg 80 g=1.080 kgB=1.52 kgC=112 kg =1.50 kgTwo combination of containers thatshould be chosen to bake cake=1.080 kg+1.52 kg=2.6 kg= Container A+container B

Question 8 (b):
Simplify pq3q5q÷p2915

Solution:
pq3q5q÷p2915=pq3q5q×15p29=q(p3)5q×153(p3)(p+3)=3p+3

Question 8 (c):
Zaitun has 24 bags of rice with the mass of 15 kg each. She gives   1 5 15  of the total rice to Hazlina. The remainder is divided equally into 16 containers.
Calculate the mass of rice, in kg, in each container.

Solution:
Total mass of rice=24×15 kg=360 kgMass of rice given to Hazlina=15×360=72 kgRemainder=36072=288 kgMass of rice in each container=28816=18 kg
